It’s still scoreless, 43 minutes into this Group A match, but it’s not an eyelid-drooping 0-0. Lots and lots of adventure (and orange) in the Senegal end, with persistent probing coming from the Dutch. Their width is imposing, and penetrating. Daley Blind has bounced a header wide, and Frenkie de Jong waited a beat too long before shooting into the Senegalese backline.

The best chance, though, came from the Senegalese forward Ismaila Sarr, who, in the absence of injured star Sadio Mane, is supplying attacking prowess. Sarr whipped a curling right-footed shot that, if not for the surging head of centerback Virgil van Dijk, seemed headed for the corner. Commanding defense from van Dijk.

  • A crackling start to the match: Not even a minute in, a Dutch miscue led to a Senegalese corner kick.

  • The starting goalie for the Dutch is Andries Noppert, and at 6-foot-8 and dressed in a neon green kit he looks kinda sorta like the biggest highlighter in Qatar. Also, he’s making his national team debut today!
