Gunman in Paris Opens Fire, Killing at Least 2

Two people were killed and a man was arrested on Friday after a shooting in central Paris, according to the city prosecutor’s office.

Four other people were wounded in the shooting, two of them seriously, according to the prosecutor’s office. The shooting took place around noon on Rue d’Enghien, a narrow street in the 10th Arrondissement of the French capital.

The prosecutor’s office said that the man who had been arrested was 69 years old. His identity was still being verified, the office said, adding that it had opened a murder investigation.

The Paris police prefecture advised residents to avoid the area, citing an ongoing operation.

Emmanuel Grégoire, deputy mayor of Paris, said on Twitter that a “gun attack” had occurred but did not elaborate. “We are talking with the police prefecture and with the prosecutor’s office to understand what happened,” Mr. Grégoire posted.
